Last week was our February Leadership Luncheon! We took 50 student leaders who have been leading The Woodlawn Way to Wendys to enjoy lunch off campus. Way to go Leaders! We are proud of you. #TheWoodlawnWay #OneMission #studentsuccess

1st graders rocked their Animal Habitat Dioramas/Projects. Each first grade class chose a habitat they’ve been learning about in class and each student got assigned an animal to research and create its habitat. Today students presented their projects! Look at how amazing they are. More pictures available on our Facebook page. #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

Our 3rd grade friends took a trip to the “Country Fair” to celebrate reading Charlotte’s Web! Students ate fair food, interacted with fair animals, created a spider web art masterpiece, and did a spider STEM challenge. Wilbur was “some pig” and Woodlawn is “some school”. Thankful for all the hands who played a part in making today special for our kids. More pictures available on our Facebook page. #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

American People and Symbols have been our topic of study in Kindergarten! Our kindergarten friends reviewed important facts they’ve learned by having special guests. Students got to meet President George Washington, President Abraham Lincoln, and The Statue of Liberty! Our young leaders are quite the growing patriots. We are learning and leading #thewoodlawnway. #OneMission #studentsuccess

Wendesday's Pit Stop for our “You Pick Adventure” professional learning experience involved Cuban cuisine for our amazing staff. Thank you to Sophie’s Cafe for helping us spoil our amazing team. It was the perfect way to kickstart our afternoon of learning. #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

4th graders stopped in to visit at The Decimal Diner to practice adding and subtracting decimals in real world scenarios. They ended their time at the diner with Coke Floats. Learning is fun at Woodlawn Elementary School. More pictures available on our Facebook page. #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

Engagement is a BIG part of The Woodlawn Way! One way our teachers ensure engagement is through the use of Kagan Cooperative Learning structures. Look at Mrs. Smoak’s kindergarten class doing Fan N Pick with subtraction equations and Ms. Tindell’s first grade class doing Quiz Quiz Trade with vocabulary words. We believe learning should be fun at Woodlawn! #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

Last week, our 5th grade students attended the 85th Annual Brighton Field Day Festival. Thank you to the Seminole Tribe of Florida Education Department for inviting us out for a celebration of Seminole arts, food, and culture! Our 5th grade students got to experience not only a local Native American culture, but other cultural traditions from Native Americans all around the country—Apache Traditional Dancers who performed a Sash Belt dance. They also watched a quick demonstration of gator wrestling and got to try pumpkin frybread! This was a perfect experience for our 5th grade students as they are soon to begin their study on Native Americans. No better way to learn than to experience things firsthand.More pictures are available on our Facebook page. #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

Our amazing Ms. Cornelius planned a Fair themed stem week in her STEM lab just in time for the Highlands County fair. Some grade levels compared living and non living fair items, some built roller coasters, and some made electromagnets and bristleboat motors. We are so blessed to have a STEM lab and even more blessed to have someone as awesome as Ms. Cornelius running it. More photos available on the Facebook page. #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

Our PBiS team wanted to show some LOVE to our amazing bus drivers and attendants. Many of our students’ days start and end with bus drivers. We appreciate all they do for our students. Our staff appreciation action team of our Leadership Ambassadors enjoyed handing out the special gifts on Valentine’s Day! #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

South Florida State College’s Teacher Education program’s students stopped by for a visit to Woodlawn to experience an “electrifying” science lesson taught by the amazing Mrs. McHargue. Students got to explore several energy concepts in a hands on way to help them see how engaging science instruction can be. Thank you Mrs. McHargue for pouring into the future generation of teachers. #thewoodlawnway

Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day! Honestly at Woodlawn, this should be every day. Officer Diego Serrano is the B to the E to the S to the T! The way he serves our students, staff, and families is awesome. Day in and day out he goes above and beyond to not only make our school safe, but to also build relationships with those he interacts with. We thank him for being a BIG part of The Woodlawn Way! #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess

Ny’Taria Worrell was the 1st place winner in the Elks Lodge Bill of Rights essay contest. Today she had the opportunity to read her essay to the Highlands County Retired Teachers Association meeting at Oscar’s. We are so proud of Ny’Taria!

On Friday, we took a different spin on Professional Learning at Woodlawn Elementary School! Our topic…Mental Health Day!
We started our day focusing on our mind and spirit by learning how to sharpen the saw in the four dimensions and living in quadrant two by prioritizing our BIG ROCKS! Thanks Leader in Me.
Then we got to Focus on our Geniuses. Staff got to choose a hobby to participate in like crocheting, cooking, art, and gardening.
Thirdly, staff filled up their water bottles at the hydration station and focused on their bodies! Staff either participated in Yoga followed by walking, Pickleball, or Book Club!
Then we ended our time focusing on our hearts with special emotional bank account deposits thanks to the families of our amazing staff.
A huge shout out to all of our staff members who led stations and shared their passions. Also, a huge shout out to Ms. Capone from Spa at Hammock Falls and Mr. Maya with Massages by OCL (both Woodlawn parents) for donating chair massages for staff in the afternoon.
Today we achieved the Daily Private Victory so that we can continue with our #OneMission #studentsuccess

It was celebration time for the 5th grade house with the most points in the second nine weeks…Protos! It was a close race, with Amistad only 90 points behind in second place. Protos enjoyed pizza and some time playing gaga ball. More pictures are on our Facebook page. #thewoodlawnway #OneMission #studentsuccess
