RUMOR CONTROL: Law enforcement and school administration are investigating a potential threat made by a student. There is no danger to the safety of the campus, and all classes are continuing as normal. All threats, even when not credible, are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.

Tonight was a big night for our middle school varsity team. Due to being tied with other teams in our conference, we had to win to place in the top 4. It was high stress and high excitement, to say the least. And for this match to be against Sebring, a big volleyball rival. These girls won the first set 25-23 and continued with a nail-biting 2nd set that ended with a 27-25 win. This match placed us in 2nd place for the conference tournament that begins next week! We are so proud of these girls! 💚🏐

The LPMS Debate Team held a Tournament Championship this last Monday! Congratulations to our two finalists, Riley and Kaylyn! The girls advanced to the final round in Lincoln Douglas Debate against their peers. Lincoln Douglas Debate is centered around morals, ethics, and philosophy. Both these young ladies were well prepared, well-spoken, and composed. Thank you to all the students that participated and a special congratulations to Kaylyn on her win!

Just after 9:00 am this morning at Lake Placid High School, a student reported potentially seeing another student in possession of a weapon. The school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, and law enforcement responded immediately. Lake Placid Middle and Lake Placid Elementary were also placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to their proximity to LPHS. After a thorough investigation by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that this was not a credible threat. There was no student with a weapon, and there had never been any danger to students or staff. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. All potential threats against a school are immediately and thoroughly investigated, and we encourage students to always report anything they see or hear regarding a threat against the safety of others.
